Creative Writing For Adults

  • Brackendale Art Gallery 41950 Government Road Squamish, BC, V0N 1H0 Canada (map)

ADDING TENSION & SUSPENSE to SHORT FICTION

Suspense is the engine that drives a great story; tension is the gas that fuels and revs the engine. These elements are what make page-turners—whether short stories, memoirs, or novels — so satisfying. Unputdownable. How do authors create and build anxiety, nervous curiosity, maybe even fear, to propel their characters and make stories unforgettable?

Join award-winning author, playwright, editor and writing coach Katherine Fawcett for a morning of pen to paper — or fingers to keyboard. Enjoy thought-provoking writing exercises, discussions and short readings, and explore how create compelling stories with tension and suspense. Come prepared to learn, create and, (if you so desire) share!

This workshop is presented in partnership with the Brackendale Art Gallery.

Katherine Fawcett is grateful to live, write, play and make music on the traditional land of the Squamish Nations.

Her latest books are The Swan Suit (Douglas & McIntyre), The Little Washer of Sorrows (Thistledown Press) and A Whistler Bear Story (Get Bear Smart). She’s written fiction, creative non-fiction, essays and plays, and hosts the “Tap In Creativity Retreat for Writers” in the Upper Squamish Valley.
