Pinching and Coiling: Create a Pottery Piece

  • The 55 Activity Centre 1201 Village Green Way Squamish, BC, V8B 0R7 Canada (map)

Welcome to CLAYTIVITY ceramics workshop, where you'll dive into the art of pinching and coiling to create your own unique pottery piece. During this hands-on workshop, Rosemary will guide you through each step of the process. Here’s what you can expect:

  1. Pinching and Coiling Techniques: Rosemary will start by teaching you the fundamental techniques of pinching and coiling clay. You’ll learn how to shape and mold the clay to create the basic form of your pottery piece, whether it’s a cup, bowl, vase, jug, or mug.

  2. Drying Process: Once you’ve crafted your piece, it will be allowed to dry in our studio to ensures your creation is ready for firing.

  3. Firing Creations to Bisque: After the drying process, Rosemary will fire your pieces in a kiln to transform them into bisque pottery, making it ready for glazing.

  4. Glazing: Once your pieces have been bisque fired, Rosemary will glaze your piece for you. Glazing not only adds color and beauty but also makes your piece food-safe and waterproof.

  5. Final Firing: After glazing, Rosemary will fire your piece again in the kiln. This final firing will set the glaze and complete your pottery piece.

  6. Pick-Up Information: Your finished piece will be ready to pick up by August 28th from CLAYTIVITY. Instructions for collection will be provided at the workshop.

  7. Option for Self-Glazing: If participants wish to glaze their own piece, they may do so by arrangement with Rosemary. There will be an extra cost of $20/participant for this option.

Throughout the workshop, Rosemary will be there to assist and answer any questions you have. By the end of the session, you’ll have a beautiful piece of pottery that you crafted from start to finish. Rosemary looks forward to creating with you!

Hosted by Rosemary from Claytivity, this event will provide you with a memorable, fun and active learning experience. The workshop introduces participants to a unique 3-dimensional art experience in sculpting and shaping techniques. Attendees will hand build their own unique ice cream or blueberry bowls.
